Terms of Service

Last updated: September 18, 2026

This is an operational Public Alpha draft. It describes how Western Mass Local actually works today. Legal review is recommended before broad launch.

1. Accounts

You need an account to claim a Business, submit a Marketplace listing, post a Local Request, or send messages. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for activity that happens under your account.

2. Business Profiles and Claims

Business profiles may exist on Western Mass Local before anyone associated with that Business has created an account. A User may submit a claim to request management access to an existing Business profile. Claims are reviewed before access is granted, and an already-claimed Business cannot be claimed again through the normal claim flow. If you believe a Business was claimed incorrectly, contact us using the support page.

Once you manage a Business profile, you are responsible for the accuracy of the information, offers, events, job listings, and Marketplace listings you publish under it.

3. Marketplace Listings

Marketplace listings are created by Businesses. Listings must be accurate and lawful. See our Marketplace Rules for what is and is not allowed. We do not guarantee the accuracy of any listing, and we are not a party to any transaction between a buyer and a seller.

4. Local Requests

Local Requests let residents describe work they need done and connect with Businesses who may be able to help. We do not guarantee that a Business will respond, that a match will lead to a completed job, or the quality of any resulting work.

5. Messaging

Messaging is available between the participants in a conversation - for example a resident and a Business connected through a Local Request or Marketplace listing. You are responsible for what you send.

6. Your Content

You are responsible for content you submit - Business profile information, Marketplace listings, Local Requests, messages, and any documents submitted as claim evidence. You must have the right to submit it.

7. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Submit a Business claim you are not authorized to make.
  • Post false, misleading, fraudulent, or unlawful content, including Marketplace listings.
  • Impersonate another person or Business.
  • Harass, spam, or abuse other users through messaging or any other feature.
  • Attempt to circumvent moderation, claim, or reporting mechanisms.

8. Moderation

We may review reported content and remove Marketplace listings, Business claims, or other content that violates these Terms or our Marketplace Rules. Removing content does not delete the underlying report or claim record, which we retain for moderation history.

9. No Guarantee of Accuracy or Outcomes

Western Mass Local is a directory, Marketplace, and connection platform. We do not guarantee the accuracy of any Business, listing, or user-submitted content, and we do not guarantee that any transaction, job, or conversation initiated through the platform will be completed successfully.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as the platform develops. We will update the date at the top of this page when we do.

11. Contact

Questions about these Terms can be sent through our contact page.
